Rang Yai Islands



(15 minutes by boat)

Rang Yai, just off the east coast of Phuket, has idyllic, tree-lined beaches on its eastern side. With its clear and inviting water, this small island is the perfect spot for a swim. The sea tends to have a southwards drift that will gently float you parallel to the beach. There are a few sunloungers dotted along the beach so you can rest in comfort between the occasional dip. There are several restaurants set back under the trees, and yet the entire beach retains its laid-back charm. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the coconut groves to reach the smaller beach on the western side of the island.

Koh Khai Nok



(30 minutes by boat)

Koh Khai Nok is a small island tucked away in Phang Nga Bay. A wide variety of fish and colourful coral reef make this island a favourite for scuba divers and snorkellers at slack water and neap tides. Koh Khai Nok is an excellent day destination for families, with its small cove teeming with feet-tickling, brilliantly coloured Sergeant Major fish.

James Bond Island



(40 minutes by boat)

James Bond Island and Koh Pannyi are two of the most famous spots in the bay - the former earned its name when its signature rocky pinnacles played a starring role in The Man with the Golden Gun. By far the best means of enjoying the spectacular scenery is to take one of the boat trips from Royal Phuket Marina. A leisurely daytrip cruising through the dramatic limestone islands, with occasional stops to enjoy quiet beaches, is far more rewarding than the standard bus-boat tour.

Racha Island



(45 minutes by boat)

The Racha (or Raya) islands are best known as excellent daytrip destinations for diving and snorkelling. Racha Yai reveals itself in splendid fashion, with most arrivals landing onto a strip of fine white sand tucked deep into the long, U-shaped main bay, called Ao Tawan Tok or "Ao Bungalow". The water here is clear and perfect for snorkelling. The other large bay, Ao Siam, is the perfect place for solitude and long strolls. Racha Noi is uninhabited and has no services or accommodation, but there are great diving spots nearby.

Phi Phi Islands



(90 minutes by boat)

The Phi Phi Islands formed the exquisite backdrop for the movie The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Ko Phi Phi Don is the largest island of the group, and is the only island with permanent inhabitants. The second largest island, Ko Phi Phi Lee, is the perfect spot for a daytrip to soak up the sun. The rest of the islands in the group, including Bida Nok, Bida Noi, and Bamboo Island, boast dramatic limestone outcroppings jutting out of the sea. There is also a thriving bird's nest soup industry on Phi Phi Lee - home of the Viking Cave.

Krabi



(1 hour 15 minutes by boat)

Krabi encompasses over 150 islands dominated by scenic limestone karsts and beautiful secluded beaches. With its unhurried pace and many beaches that can only be reached by boat, the island has been able to keep development to a minimum. Indeed, Hat Noppharat Thara - Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park incorporates much of Krabi, including many of the mainland beaches and over 80 smaller islands - amongst them, the xquisite Phi Phi Islands.
